Congo, Really? Yes! In, Through, On and Across the Congo! / Kongo, wirklich? Ja! In, durch, auf und über den Kongo!

"Congo? Is not that too dangerous?", we are often asked. First of all, there are two Congo’s - I mean countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), and the Republic of the Congo (please also see the "Did you know that...?" - info box below). There are regular advises against travel to the eastern/north-eastern part of the DR Congo. Yet that region is not on our route anyway, which leads to the north. We want to cross the narrow strip in the west of the country. This area is considered quite safe, just as the Republic of the Congo further north.

Kongo, wirklich? Ja! In, durch, auf und über den Kongo!

“Kongo? Ist das nicht viel zu gefährlich?”, werden wir oft gefragt. Zuerst einmal: Es gibt zwei Kongos - Länder, meine ich: die Demokratische Republik Kongo (DR Kongo) und die Republik Kongo (s. dazu auch die “Wusstet ihr, dass...?”-Info-Box unten). Vor einer Reise in den östlichen/nordöstlichen Teil der DR Kongo wird immer mal wieder gewarnt. Dieser liegt allerdings eh nicht auf unserer Route, die ja gen Norden führt. Wir wollen den westlichen schmalen Streifen des Landes durchfahren. Die Region gilt als sicher, ebenso wie die Republik Kongo weiter nördlich.
