On the Road in Zim / Unterwegs in Sim

Roadblocks this time without us

In Zimbabwe (or Zim in the short version) you can be stopped at a roadblock at the entrance of a little village and again at its exit, only a few hundred metres further away. In other words you should expect a lot of roadblocks where the police is checking e.g. your speed, or the papers, or the content of your vehicle. Last year (when our camper was still ‘naked’ without any design and logo) we were stopped at every roadblock. This time we are lucky since we were waved through about 20 times and stopped only once so far. Martin is convinced that it is due to the design of our camper, which clearly identifies us as tourists. Me, however, I guess that it is also the positive spirit of ‘EarthLoversOnTour’, which makes this happen. Whatsoever, thereby it is much more relaxing to travel through Zim.

Roadblocks diesmal ohne uns

In Simbabwe kann es durchaus passieren, dass man am Eingang einer kleinen Ortschaft in einen roadblock der Polizei kommt und am Ausgang einige hundert Meter weiter noch einmal. Also jede Menge Straßensperren, auf die man sich einstellen muss, bei denen z.B. die Papiere, Geschwindigkeit, ggf. auch der Inhalt des Fahrzeugs überprüft werden. Im letzten Jahr (als unser Camper noch ‚nackt’ ohne Design und Logo war) wurden wir jedes Mal angehalten. Diesmal sind wir bisher bestimmt 20mal freundlich durchgewunken und nur einmal kontrolliert worden. Martin ist davon überzeugt, dass wir mit unserem Design schon von der Ferne als Touristen erkennbar sind. Ich glaube ja, dass auch der Sympathiewert von 'EarthLoversOnTour' eine gewisse Rolle spielt. Wie auch immer, diesmal ist es spürbar stressfreier, durch Sim (so sagt man im täglichen Sprachgebrauch) zu reisen.
